An articulated tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded on Tuesday afternoon around the Muslim area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, causing panic among residents and commuters.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred after the driver of the tanker lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and overturn. The impact led to a massive fire outbreak.

Officers of the Oyo State Fire Service responded swiftly to the scene, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to nearby residential buildings.

Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident, although the explosion caused significant traffic disruption along the expressway.

Authorities have since commenced investigation into the cause of the accident.
