…Ghana Boxing Authority Donates $3,000 to Support Family
The body of Nigerian professional boxer, Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, who passed away in Ghana in March, has been successfully repatriated to Nigeria for burial.
According to the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), the remains were airlifted from Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Monday, June 17, with a brief stopover scheduled in Lomé, Togo, before arriving in Lagos.
In a statement released by its Communications Directorate, the GBA expressed deep appreciation to the Ghanaian public, the boxing community, and the media for their steadfast support and solidarity following the boxer’s untimely death.
As part of preparations for the funeral in Lagos, the GBA has dispatched two representatives to Nigeria: Mr. Gideon Hassen Appiah, a member of the GBA Board, and Mr. Lateykwei Lartey, Head Coach of Fit Square Boxing Gym. The duo traveled ahead of the arrival of the body at Murtala Muhammed International Airport to coordinate final arrangements.

GBA President, Abraham Kotei Neequaye, revealed that the authority has provided $3,000 in support to the late boxer’s family. This includes a $1,500 purse donation from Gordon Frimpong, CEO of Osibor Boxing Management, and an additional $1,500 contribution from the GBA itself.
The funds have been entrusted to the GBA delegation to be presented to the President of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) on behalf of the grieving family.
The GBA reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with the Nigerian boxing community and pledged to honour the legacy of Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju with dignity and respect.
