President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Wednesday for a two-nation official visit to South Africa and Angola.
In a statement on Tuesday through Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy said the Nigerian leader’s first stop will be Johannesburg, where he will participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, scheduled for Saturday, November 22, to Sunday, November 23, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.
The summit, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability”, brings together leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, the European Union, the African Union, and major international financial institutions.
During the two-day summit, President Tinubu is expected to engage in plenary sessions focusing on inclusive and sustainable growth, financing for development and debt management, disaster risk reduction, climate change, energy transitions, food systems, critical minerals, decent work, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
President Tinubu will also hold bilateral meetings aimed at advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda, as well as addressing regional and global peace, security, and development priorities.
President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, who currently chairs the G20, extended the invitation to Nigeria, following a similar invitation extended by former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in 2024.
Following the G20 Summit, President Tinubu will proceed to Luanda, Angola, to participate in the 7th African Union-European Union (AU-EU) Summit, scheduled for November 24 to 25. The meeting will convene Heads of State, young leaders, innovators, and civil society representatives to discuss shared challenges, including climate change, inclusive development, infrastructure, digital economy, creative industries, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
Accompanying President Tinubu on the trip are key government officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake, Minister of Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, and Director General of the National Intelligence Agency Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the two international engagements.
