Several Nigerian soldiers were injured on Friday after terrorists ambushed troops deployed to rescue kidnapped schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
The attack came barely 24 hours after the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, ordered troops of Operation Fasan Yamma to intensify operations against the bandits responsible for abducting students of Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.
“You must continue fighting day and night. We must find these children,” the COAS had directed.
General Shaibu also urged field commanders to prioritize intelligence-led operations, stressing the need for swift and professional action. “Once you receive information on situations like this, act professionally and decisively. This is not just about our image; it is about doing our job properly,” he said.
Troops were further instructed to maintain round-the-clock operations until all kidnapped students are rescued and reunited with their families.
Acting on this directive, soldiers mobilized for the rescue mission but were ambushed by terrorists during the operation.
Video footage obtained by OSUNREPORT shows several wounded soldiers lying on the ground without immediate medical assistance. In the clip, one soldier is heard speaking in Hausa, saying: “Musa has a bullet lodged in his leg. His condition is very bad.”
