A night vigil service at a church in Abia State was briefly disrupted after an elderly man entered the premises wielding a cutlass, prompting a tense confrontation that was captured on video and later circulated widely on social media.
The footage shows the visibly distressed man confronting a younger individual believed to be the church’s pastor, shouting repeatedly and demanding that the service be stopped and the building vacated.
Witnesses said the man appeared angered by noise from the overnight service, which he claimed had disturbed his sleep.
Several members of the congregation and bystanders attempted to calm the situation, urging the man to lower his voice and step away. Those efforts were unsuccessful, as the man continued to shout and refused to leave, escalating tensions inside the church.
