A man has died following an incident at the Adigun Memorial Mosque in the Ogo-Oluwa area of Osogbo, south-west Nigeria, with police confirming the arrest of four people in connection with the case.
The Osun State Police Command said the incident occurred after the man reportedly entered the mosque and caused a disturbance during prayers. Witnesses told police that he allegedly made threatening remarks towards the imam, prompting concern among members of the congregation.
According to local sources, some worshippers left the mosque to report the matter at the Ataoja Police Divisional Headquarters.
However, by the time they returned with police officers, the man was found unresponsive.
Police said he was taken to hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival. His body has since been deposited at a morgue.
The authorities added that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the case to establish the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
There have been unverified claims that the man may have been assaulted before he died. Police sources said the deceased had visible injuries, which are now part of the investigation.
In a statement, the police said they had arrested four suspects in connection with the incident, while security personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent any breach of public order.
The Osun State Police Command expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and said anyone found responsible would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
