Renowned American gospel singer, worship leader and pastor Ron Kenoly has died at the age of 81. His death was confirmed on Tuesday by close associates and members of the global Christian music community.
Kenoly rose to international prominence in the early 1990s following the release of his breakthrough album Lift Him Up, which became one of the best-selling live worship recordings of its time.
The project helped redefine contemporary praise and worship music and cemented Kenoly’s place as a leading voice in modern Christian worship.
He was widely celebrated for popular worship songs including Ancient of Days, Jesus Is Alive and We’re Going Up, which became staples in church services around the world. His music, known for its energetic melodies and emphasis on congregational participation, influenced worship styles across denominations and continents.
Tributes have poured in from gospel musicians, church leaders and worshippers, many of whom credited Kenoly’s music with transforming worship experiences globally. He was frequently described as a defining figure whose joyful approach to praise encouraged active involvement from congregations.
