In a reply to a parliamentary inquiry by The Left party, the government said 1,521 cases of right-wing politically motivated violence were recorded nationwide last year. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) had listed 1,488 such cases in 2024 and 1,270 the year before.
The government noted that the figures remain provisional and could change due to later updates. Reports must first be transmitted from Germany’s states to the BKA and in some cases the political motive of an offence is only established at a later stage.
It therefore cannot be ruled out that the slight decline in the overall number of right-wing politically motivated crimes – down around 4% to 41,072 offences in 2025 – could ultimately prove smaller.
Typical politically motivated crimes include defamation of the state and its symbols, incitement to hatred and insult. Violent offences include attempted murder, bodily harm, serious breaches of the peace, dangerous interference with road traffic, unlawful detention and offences involving resistance to law enforcement.
The Left party also requested details of violent crimes in the final three months of last year. According to the government’s reply, police were informed of one right-wing attempted homicide in October and another in December.
In May, federal prosecutors launched a crackdown on a far-right extremist group calling itself the Last Wave of Defence. Five male suspects aged between 14 and 21 were arrested in coordinated raids in several German states.
According to prosecutors, the group aimed to destabilize Germany’s democratic system through acts of violence, primarily targeting migrants and political opponents.
