Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for greater unity among citizens during a homecoming visit to Warri Kingdom in southern Nigeria.
She made the appeal in Delta State, where she was received by the traditional ruler of the Itsekiri people, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri.
Addressing a large crowd, Mrs Tinubu urged residents to set aside their differences and work together in harmony. Quoting from the Bible, she referenced Psalm 133, saying it is “pleasant to dwell together in unity” and that blessings follow where there is togetherness.
The First Lady assured the people of continued government support and praised the efforts of Delta State’s governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, saying he had been doing a good job in the state.
As part of her visit, Mrs Tinubu, through her Renewed Hope Initiative, donated 50 million naira to support 1,000 women petty traders in the kingdom. The empowerment programme is aimed at boosting small-scale businesses run by women.
Governor Oborevwori, who welcomed the First Lady, noted that she had visited the state three times — twice while he was a member of another political party and again after he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). He described her actions as demonstrating “tremendous love and sincerity” towards Nigerians, particularly through initiatives such as women’s economic empowerment and health campaigns.
In his remarks, the Olu of Warri called on the people of the kingdom to let go of past grievances in order to achieve peace, progress and prosperity. He said the kingdom was proud of the First Lady and praised her as a positive example to women and girls.
Mrs Tinubu, whose mother is from Warri, was conferred with the traditional title of Utukpa-Oritse of Warri Kingdom, also known as Ugbone, meaning “the Light of God.”
