A robbery incident occurred at a restaurant in Minna, Niger State, after suspected armed robbers allegedly trailed a bank customer who had withdrawn a large sum of money.
The victim, identified as David Emmanuel Adebayo, reportedly withdrew ₦5 million from Wema Bank and another ₦3 million from TAJBank, bringing the total amount withdrawn to ₦8 million. He later stopped at Iya Femi Restaurant along Shiroro Road to buy food.
According to the victim, the suspects approached him shortly after he parked his vehicle and demanded the cash, claiming they had followed him from the banks. The robbers reportedly fired several shots intermittently in an attempt to intimidate him and force him to surrender the money.
In a dramatic twist, Mr. Adebayo reportedly resisted the attack, overpowering one of the suspects and seizing a rifle from him. He allegedly used the weapon to shoot the suspect, causing panic among the attackers.
The remaining suspects then attempted to flee the scene using their vehicle, but it reportedly failed to start. They subsequently escaped in the victim’s car, making away with the ₦8 million he had withdrawn and an additional ₦1 million already in his possession, bringing the total amount stolen to ₦9 million.
Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force arrived at the scene minutes after the incident. Officers present included the Divisional Crime Operations officer and the Divisional Police Officer of Tudun‑Wada Police Station, who secured the area.
The suspects’ abandoned vehicle was later recovered and moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. Police authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. 🚔
