Defence Minister Urges Media to Avoid Terrorism Propaganda in Reports|LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has urged media organisations across Nigeria to maintain professionalism in their reportage and avoid amplifying propaganda from terrorist groups.

The minister made the call while addressing journalists after a strategic meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs to review operational strategies across various theatres of operation in the country.

According to him, irresponsible dissemination of terrorist messages could demoralise troops and give unnecessary publicity to criminal elements operating in the country.

Musa assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces, working alongside other security agencies, are intensifying efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other security threats affecting national stability.

He acknowledged that the military had recorded casualties in the line of duty but stressed that security forces have continued to record successes against criminal groups.

“The security forces have inflicted significant losses on terrorists and bandits, including the elimination of several of their commanders and the destruction of their assets,” he said.

The defence minister reaffirmed the military’s commitment to defeating all threats to the country’s peace and unity and called on Nigerians to support security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing operations.

He emphasised that addressing insecurity requires collective effort, warning that individuals who provide information or logistical support to criminal groups would be treated as accomplices and dealt with according to the law.

Musa also reassured citizens that under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government remains committed to supporting the Armed Forces and other security agencies in their efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
