Students of the University of Ilorin will now pay up to ₦450 for campus transportation following a fare review announced by the University of Ilorin Students’ Union.
The new rates were disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Union President, Adelu Idris Ayomo, and the Public Relations Officer, Adam Mozeed.
The Union said the adjustment takes immediate effect after what it described as extensive consultations and final agreement with transport operators.
Under the revised structure, students commuting from Post Office to New Park will pay ₦450, the highest among the approved fares. Other routes include New Park to School at ₦200 (Korope), Terminus to New Park at ₦250 (Korope), and Oke-Odo to New Park at ₦200.
The Union, however, clarified that fares for institution-owned buses, including Marcopolo and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, remain unchanged.
According to the statement, the decision was reached after balancing students’ welfare with the operational challenges faced by transporters.
The Students’ Union also warned operators against overloading and arbitrary fare increases, insisting that the approved 3-3-2 seating arrangement must be strictly observed. Students were urged to report any violations to appropriate authorities.
It added that the situation would be closely monitored, noting that the fare regime remains subject to periodic review.
