NADMO, Military Intensify Rescue Operations as Floods Hit Parts of Accra |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in collaboration with the 48 Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces, has intensified rescue operations in flood-affected communities following heavy rainfall that inundated several parts of the Greater Accra Region on Monday.

According to NADMO, emergency response teams remain on the ground conducting rescue missions, evacuating stranded residents, and providing support to affected families. The operation is being carried out in partnership with other emergency agencies to ensure the safety of residents in flood-prone areas.

“Our dedicated teams are working tirelessly with partner agencies to save lives and provide the necessary assistance to those impacted,” the organisation said in a statement.

The public has been advised to stay away from flood-hit operational areas, comply with safety directives issued by emergency responders, and report emergencies through the appropriate channels.

The latest rescue efforts come as the Greater Accra Regional Minister directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to intensify emergency response measures and coordinate closely with NADMO and other agencies following widespread flooding across the capital. Authorities say government agencies remain on high alert as rescue and relief operations continue.

NADMO has activated its emergency operations framework, deploying rapid response teams to flood-prone communities to strengthen coordination of rescue and relief efforts. The agency says its emergency teams remain on standby for immediate deployment whenever distress calls are received.

The Ghana Armed Forces has regularly supported NADMO during flood emergencies through the deployment of the 48 Engineers Regiment, which specialises in search-and-rescue operations and evacuation of residents trapped by floodwaters.

Authorities continue to urge residents to avoid flooded roads and waterways, relocate to safer areas where necessary, and heed all official weather and safety advisories as heavy rains persist across parts of the country.
