Osun Amotekun Denies Report of Operative Arrested With AK-47 in Osogbo

The Osun Amotekun Corps has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging that one of its operatives was arrested by the police in Osogbo while in possession of an AK-47 rifle.

In a statement issued by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, CSA Yusuf Idowu Abass, the security outfit described the allegation as “baseless, unfounded, and malicious,” insisting that no such incident involving any of its personnel occurred.

According to the statement, the report is a deliberate attempt by unidentified individuals to tarnish the image of the Corps, mislead the public, and undermine the confidence residents of Osun State have in the security outfit.

The Corps urged members of the public to disregard the publication, describing it as propaganda aimed at creating panic, spreading false information, and bringing the agency into disrepute.

Osun Amotekun maintained that it has remained committed to its constitutional and statutory responsibilities since its establishment, operating strictly within the provisions of the law establishing the Corps while working closely with other security agencies to promote peace, public safety, and community policing across the state.

The statement noted that the Corps has recorded significant achievements in crime prevention, rescue operations, intelligence gathering, and the protection of lives and property, earning commendation from residents, traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders.

The management reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, discipline, and the rule of law, stressing that the Corps has never deviated from the legal framework guiding its operations.

It also called on media practitioners and members of the public to verify security-related information through official channels before publishing or sharing such reports, emphasizing the need for responsible journalism and social media use to prevent the spread of misinformation.

The Corps assured residents that it remains focused on its mandate of protecting lives and property across Osun State and would not be distracted by what it described as false allegations and calculated attempts to undermine its operations.
