The Osun State Police Command says it has arrested a serving member of the State House of Assembly and 146 other people suspected of being brought into the state to influence Saturday’s governorship election.

The lawmaker, Abiola Ibrahim Inaolaji, who represents the Irewole/Isokan constituency, was arrested during a police operation at his residence in Ikire on Friday night, according to the command.

Police said more than 200 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were recovered from the premises.

A video circulating online shows the lawmaker identifying himself and allegedly acknowledging his role in facilitating the movement of the 146 people into Osun from neighbouring states. The claims in the video have not been independently verified.

The arrests come as security agencies step up operations ahead of the election, amid concerns over attempts to manipulate the voting process.

Authorities have not yet announced details of possible charges against those arrested.
