President Bola Tinubu and former Senate President Bukola Saraki have congratulated Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as Governor of Osun State.
The congratulations came as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concluded the collation of results from Saturday’s governorship election.
According to Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesman for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign said President Tinubu had contacted Adeleke and congratulated him even before the official declaration of the election result.
“Even before the election result was declared, Mr. President called Mr. Governor and congratulated him,” Olajengbesi said.
He also claimed that Adeleke had instructed his supporters and campaign teams not to engage in vote buying during the election.
“Governor Adeleke gave the express instruction to his foot soldiers not to pay a single dime at each PU,” he added.
Saraki, in a statement congratulating Adeleke, described the governor’s victory as a clear expression of the will of the people of Osun State.
“I congratulate my dear brother and friend, Governor Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election as Governor of Osun State,” Saraki said.
He said the people of Osun had four years to assess Adeleke’s administration before deciding to give him another mandate.
“The people of Osun have spoken, and they have spoken clearly. They have had four years to judge the record of his stewardship, to weigh the promises against the performance, and they have asked him to continue,” he said.
Saraki also commended voters for participating in the election and remaining vigilant in protecting their votes.
He said elections in which the people’s votes are freely expressed, properly counted and respected represent an important victory for Nigeria’s democracy.
According to him, Adeleke’s second term comes with both a renewed mandate and greater responsibility to deliver on his promises.
Saraki urged the governor to build on his achievements during his first term and use the next four years to create a stronger and more prosperous Osun State.
“Congratulations, my brother,” the former Senate President said.
