The Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, Olalekan Olu-Akindipe, has commissioned several infrastructure projects and distributed multimillion-naira business equipment to residents as part of activities marking his first year in office.
Olu-Akindipe inaugurated the projects on Wednesday in Lagos during the grand finale of activities commemorating his one-year anniversary in office.
The projects include the Maracana Footbridge, Ajasa Motorable Bridge, Mokoya Motorable Bridge, Oluwa Nursery and Primary School on Umeriro Street, and three solar-powered boreholes in Wards B, H and I.
The chairman also highlighted the completion of Oluwa Street, which was inaugurated by the Lagos State APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Damilola Sanayon.
Speaking at the event, Olu-Akindipe said his administration had focused on projects and programmes designed to improve the lives of residents across the local government.
He said the achievements covered infrastructure, education, healthcare, environmental sanitation, youth and women development, social welfare and human capital development.
“Today is not merely a celebration of one year in office. It is an opportunity to reflect on the journey so far, appreciate the progress recorded and recognise the collective efforts behind these achievements,” he said.
The chairman also unveiled an empowerment programme aimed at helping residents establish and strengthen small businesses.
The programme included 50 deep freezers, 50 industrial machines, 50 stone-processing machines, 25 welding machines, 25 shoe-making machines, 100 cake mixers and 25 vulcanising machines.
Beneficiaries also received 100 make-up kits and accessories, 50 solar generators, chairs and a standard canopy.
In addition, the council distributed 3,000 bags of 10kg rice and ₦10,000 cash to widows and elderly residents.
Olu-Akindipe said beneficiaries were selected after officials visited communities across the local government to identify residents’ needs.
He described the initiative as part of his administration’s commitment to grassroots development, inclusive growth and people-oriented governance.
The chairman also commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying increased allocations to local governments had improved their ability to execute development projects.
“Unlike before, we are no longer facing serious financial burdens. The JAAC allocation that comes in is very huge,” he said.
He assured residents that his administration would sustain its development efforts and work towards improving their quality of life.
“One year is just the beginning. With your continued support, prayers and partnership, we shall take our Local Government to greater heights,” Olu-Akindipe said.
A member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council, Prince Rabiu Oluwa, commended the chairman’s performance and expressed confidence in the administration.
The Olu of Iwa and Apapa Kingdom, Oba Moruf Oluwa, also prayed for the chairman and pledged continued support for the administration.
The immediate past chairman of the council, Fatai Ayoola, similarly praised the projects recorded by the present administration and wished Olu-Akindipe greater success.
One of the beneficiaries, Shola Adekoya, a fish seller who received a deep freezer, commended the council for supporting women and young people.
She urged other local governments to adopt similar empowerment initiatives to help reduce poverty and create opportunities for residents to establish and expand their businesses.
The event attracted government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders, stakeholders and residents from across Ajeromi-Ifelodun.
