The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed the arrest of a man allegedly seen in a viral video brutalising a toddler in the Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The agency said it was alerted to the alleged child abuse on Tuesday, and immediately activated its response protocol.
According to a statement signed by Onadipe Opebere, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Lagos DSVA, the agency established contact with the child’s mother, who confirmed that the incident had already been reported to the authorities.
The DSVA said its officials contacted the Family Support Unit at the Imota Police Station and were informed that the child’s mother had initially reported the matter to the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA).
The alleged perpetrator was subsequently apprehended on Wednesday, September 23, and remains in police custody while investigations continue.
The toddler and her mother have also been referred to a General Hospital for immediate medical attention and further assessment.
The agency said it would continue to monitor the case and provide necessary support to the child and her mother.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of child abuse and said it remained committed to strengthening safeguarding systems and ensuring that survivors receive the necessary protection and support.
