The Lagos State Police Command has identified the police inspector featured in a viral video making inappropriate remarks while travelling on public transport.
The officer was identified as Inspector Osumah Frank, according to a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebesi.
The Command said it had commenced appropriate disciplinary proceedings against the inspector in accordance with the established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The police authorities also distanced the Command and the Force from the remarks attributed to the officer, stressing that they were made in his personal capacity and did not represent the official position or views of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated that police personnel are expected to demonstrate professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times.
Fatai further stressed that wearing the police uniform comes with the responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force.
He warned that the Command would not tolerate conduct capable of bringing the police into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the institution.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and policing with humility and integrity.
