Police in Kampala, Uganda, have launched an investigation into the suspected murder of Matovu Moses, a musician with the popular Afrigo Band.
Moses reportedly died on Thursday, after sustaining serious injuries during an alleged confrontation at Kibuli Depot in Makindye Division, Kampala District.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police, preliminary investigations indicate that the musician went to the residence of his girlfriend at about 5:30 a.m.
Police said Moses and the woman were allegedly leaving the residence when they were confronted by a man believed to have previously been in a relationship with the same woman.
The woman who was with Moses was subsequently arrested and is currently assisting detectives with the investigation.
Police said preliminary information suggests that the incident may have followed a physical altercation, although investigators have yet to establish the exact circumstances that led to the musician’s injuries and subsequent death.
Moses was reportedly rushed to Kibuli Hospital by a boda boda rider after sustaining serious injuries. He later died at the hospital.
The suspected male assailant has been identified but is believed to have fled the scene.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, said detectives were actively pursuing the suspect to facilitate his arrest and establish what transpired.
She added that investigators were continuing to verify accounts surrounding the incident and would provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
Police appealed to members of the public to remain calm and allow investigators to conduct their work without interference.
The police also expressed condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and fans of Moses, as investigations into his death continue.
