…PDP candidate vows to challenge omission, urges supporters to remain calm
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has reacted to the omission of his name from the list of candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 governorship election, assuring supporters that steps are being taken to address the situation.
Adebutu, in a statement addressed to the people of Ogun State, maintained that he remained a duly registered member of the PDP and had completed his digital registration within the stipulated period.
He said his membership card had been printed and verified, while the relevant documentation was submitted to INEC within the prescribed timeframe.
The PDP candidate also stated that he had not left the party and remained committed to its political activities.
According to him, the governorship primary that produced him as the party’s candidate was conducted with INEC officials present as observers, adding that relevant documents were presented for verification and certification.
Adebutu expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the omission, noting that other PDP candidates contesting for seats in the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate had appeared on INEC’s published lists.
He said the Ogun State PDP had raised concerns over what it described as undue pressure allegedly mounted by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on the electoral commission.
However, the allegations regarding political pressure were claims made by Adebutu and the PDP and were not independently established in his statement.
The governorship candidate said the party would pursue the matter through the appropriate channels, insisting that due process must be followed.
Adebutu further alleged that the party had faced several challenges in its political activities, including restrictions on campaign billboards, attacks at campaign grounds and harassment of members.
Despite these challenges, he said the party remained committed to peaceful political participation and would not allow intimidation to prevent the people of Ogun State from exercising their democratic rights.
He urged PDP members, supporters and residents of the state to remain calm and steadfast while the party worked towards resolving the issue.
Adebutu expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved, pledging not to abandon the struggle to provide what he described as the leadership and relief needed by the people of Ogun State.
He said the party’s campaign was focused on the welfare, progress and right of the people to determine the future of the state.
Reaffirming the campaign slogan, “Ogun for Ogun,” Adebutu said the movement represented a call for leadership rooted in the interests of the people and responsive to their needs.
He concluded by declaring that the party remained focused and resolute, adding that its journey towards a better Ogun State would continue.
“Relief is here,” he declared.
