The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked a fraudulent publication circulating online, claiming to be a special announcement by the Commission concerning governorship candidates in six states.

The Commission, in public notice, identified the affected states as Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano, describing the publication as fake and confirming that it did not originate from INEC.

INEC urged members of the public to disregard the notice and refrain from sharing it, warning against the spread of false information capable of misleading voters and other electoral stakeholders.

The electoral body advised Nigerians to rely exclusively on its official communication channels for accurate and verified information regarding electoral matters.

These channels include its official website, www.inecnigeria.org; Facebook page, INEC Nigeria; and social media accounts on X and Instagram. The Commission also directed the public to its news portal, www.inecnews.com.

INEC further clarified that any claim suggesting it had issued a special announcement concerning governorship candidates in the six states was false.

The Commission called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify electoral information through its established channels to prevent the circulation of fraudulent publications.

INEC reiterated its commitment to providing accurate information to the public and urged citizens to obtain updates on electoral matters only from its official communication platforms.
