Two 20-year-old women have been charged with second-degree assault and felony resisting arrest following an alleged attack on an off-duty police officer working overnight security at a QuikTrip convenience store in North St. Louis County, Missouri, United States.

According to court documents, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday when the officer, who works with the Hillsdale Police Department, was allegedly attacked by the two women.

The documents identified the suspects as Nayonna Griffin and Shania Lewis.

Griffin allegedly threw items at the officer, prompting him to approach her. Lewis reportedly threw the officer to the ground and punched him repeatedly, while Griffin allegedly stomped on his head.

Court records further stated that Lewis attempted to grab the officer’s firearm but was unable to remove it from its holster.

When additional officers arrived at the scene, Griffin allegedly continued pulling the officer’s hair, kicking and resisting attempts by officers to handcuff her.

Both women are facing charges of second-degree assault on a special victim and felony resisting arrest.

They are each being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond as the case proceeds through the legal system.

The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment.

Video footage of the incident reportedly shows the two women struggling with the officer inside the store near the entrance and coolers, with merchandise scattered across the floor.

The allegations are expected to be addressed through the judicial process.
