Footage circulating on October 21 appears to show an oil tanker with a large tear in its hull near the waterline.
The incident comes amid heightened maritime security concerns around the Strait of Hormuz, where the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) continues to report incidents involving commercial vessels and military activity.
UKMTO issued a separate advisory on October 20 concerning a tanker that interacted with military forces approximately 121 nautical miles east of Duqm, Oman. However, it has not been confirmed whether that report involves the vessel shown in the footage.
The tanker’s identity, the cause of the visible damage, and any link to an Iranian anti-ship missile remain unconfirmed.
