The Swiss Government and Yobe State Government have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration on sustainable solutions for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and communities affected by displacement.
The commitment was renewed during a strategic meeting between officials of the Swiss Embassy in Nigeria and a delegation from Yobe State Government at the Embassy of Switzerland in Nigeria.
The Yobe delegation was led by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Goje Mohammed, and included the Commissioner for Finance and the State Coordinator of the World Bank-supported SOLID Project on Durable Solutions.
The delegation was received by the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Egloff, alongside the Embassy’s Senior Political Adviser, Florent Geel, and Humanitarian Adviser, Cecile D’Agostino.
Discussions centred on Switzerland’s continued support for durable solutions to internal displacement and the implementation of Yobe State’s State Action Plan (SAP) on Durable Solutions.
The Swiss Embassy commended the Yobe State Government for its political commitment, leadership and budgetary provisions towards implementing the action plan.
It noted that sustained government commitment was critical to moving beyond emergency humanitarian interventions towards long-term recovery, resilience and development for internally displaced persons and host communities.
The Swiss Government also reaffirmed its commitment to working with Yobe State through collaborative approaches that promote government ownership, strengthen coordination and deliver lasting solutions to displacement-related challenges.
The partnership is expected to support efforts towards sustainable recovery and improved living conditions for communities affected by displacement in the state.
