Ondo Govt Begins Metering Scheme for Residents |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Ondo State Government has announced plans to commence a meter installment payment scheme for residents and communities across the state, marking a significant step toward ending estimated billing and promoting transparency in electricity usage.

According to the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, the initiative implemented through the Ondo State Power Company (OSPC) forms a key part of the O’Datiwa Mass Metering Scheme.

The programme is designed to ensure reliable, affordable, and transparent access to electricity for all citizens.

Speaking on the development, Engr. Alabi disclosed that the first phase of the scheme will see the deployment of 50,000 smart meters across households, businesses, and communities in Ondo State.

He added that a trial run will begin this month, with the full rollout scheduled for November 2025.

“With this programme, every citizen and business will have access to prepaid meters that guarantee fairness, transparency, and efficiency,” Engr. Alabi stated.

The Commissioner further revealed that the OSPC, in partnership with accredited Meter Asset Providers (MAPs), will manage the rollout to ensure compliance with quality standards and smooth implementation.

He emphasized that beyond consumer empowerment, the metering scheme will bolster the state’s electricity sector, attract new investments, and enhance revenue assurance for operators.

Reaffirming the commitment of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to improved power supply and service delivery, Engr. Alabi urged residents to support the initiative, noting that it lays the foundation for long-term power sector reform and sustainable energy development in Ondo State.
