Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle on personal terms with midfielder Rúben Neves, Sky News understands.
The Portugal international has agreed to a proposed three-year contract and is said to be keen on returning to European football, giving the move his approval.
Discussions are now ongoing between Manchester United and Neves’ current club as both sides seek to agree on a transfer fee. No final deal has yet been concluded, but talks are described as progressing.
Neves, who has previously played in the Premier League, is viewed as an experienced option to strengthen United’s midfield as the club continues its rebuilding plans ahead of the new season.
Sources close to the negotiations suggest that United are optimistic a deal can be reached, although further details are expected once club-to-club talks advance.
