The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced that Tuesday, January 20, 2026, marks the first day of Sha’aban 1447AH.
The announcement was contained in an official statement issued on Monday, January 19, 2026, by Wazirin Sokoto, who is also the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council, Sokoto.
The statement conveyed that the declaration followed established religious procedures and observations, and called on Muslims across the country to take note of the commencement of the new Islamic month.
