Lagos Weightlifting Association Boosts Athletes with Equipment Donation |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Lagos State Weightlifting Association has donated training equipment to athletes to enhance their preparation for upcoming competitions.

The presentation ceremony was held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the Director of Technical at the Lagos State Sports Commission, Ife Ogunlaja, said the donation would significantly improve the performance of weightlifters by enabling them to focus more on structured and effective training.

Ogunlaja noted that the newly donated items would complement existing facilities, thereby strengthening the athletes’ capacity to train efficiently and prepare adequately for both national and international championships.

In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Weightlifting Association, Aderemi Lasisi, described the donation as a strategic step towards promoting the development of weightlifting in the state.

Lasisi observed that weightlifting does not enjoy the same level of attention as sports such as football and basketball, stressing the need for stakeholders to support government efforts in positioning weightlifting as a prominent international sport.

He further emphasised that access to standard equipment is vital for grooming athletes for competitions at both local and global levels, adding that the distribution of equipment would begin in Lagos and later extend to other South-West states.

Lasisi also advised athletes to shun performance-enhancing drugs and remain committed to disciplined training as they pursue excellence in the sport.
