A Nigerian man has been arrested by Bengaluru police in connection with a major synthetic drug seizure, officials confirmed.
The Anti-Narcotics Wing of the Central Crime Branch said the suspect, Ernest Onyekachi Ugah, was arrested on 19 January 2026, following an extended surveillance operation.
Police said they recovered 2.5kg of MDMA and 300 ecstasy tablets, valued at over ₦800 million.
According to investigators, Ugah allegedly ran the operation from a rented apartment and supplied drugs to local dealers and party organisers involved in the city’s nightlife.
Police said Ugah has a history of NDPS offences, with two prior cases and a recent release from prison.
Officials also revealed the suspect had overstayed his visa, having been in India for about five years.
A new case has been filed and authorities said they are now seeking to identify the broader supply chain, including international contacts.
Police also called for stricter bail conditions and faster court proceedings for repeat offenders
