Nigerian Troops Kill Two Suspected Terrorists, Rescue 62 Hostages in North-West Operations|LAGOS EYE NEWS

Nigeria’s Joint Task Force North West, under Operation Fansan Yamma, have killed two suspected terrorists and rescued 62 abducted people during separate security operations in Kebbi and Zamfara states.

According to a statement from the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the operations were carried out by Sector 2 forces in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups.

In Kebbi State, troops acting on intelligence ambushed members of the Lakurawa terrorist group near the border between Augie Local Government Area in Kebbi and Binji Local Government Area in neighbouring Sokoto State. The operation took place in Kerani village.

Two suspected terrorists were killed during the encounter, and security forces recovered two motorcycles believed to have been used by the group. The statement said the suspects were wearing camouflage uniforms, while the motorcycles were padded with thick blankets and fitted with equipment designed for long-distance travel, including hand-operated tyre pumps.

In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops raided Munhaye Forest, a known hideout of a notorious bandit leader identified as Kachalla Alti. The operation followed intelligence reports that a number of people were being held captive in the area.

Security forces successfully rescued 62 kidnapped victims, who have since been taken to a secure location. Authorities say efforts are under way to reunite the freed hostages with their families.

The Nigerian Army said the operations highlight the ongoing efforts of Operation Fansan Yamma and its partners to disrupt armed groups, improve security and protect civilians across the region.
