The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has called on residents to remain grateful and hopeful, even in the face of personal and economic difficulties.
In a message shared on Friday, Mr Hamzat acknowledged that many people are currently experiencing hardships, including financial struggles, health concerns, relationship challenges and pressures at work and home.
He noted that, for some individuals, looking at their present circumstances may make gratitude difficult, particularly for those without stable housing or who feel overworked and underpaid.
However, the deputy governor also recognised that others may be reflecting on a year marked by progress and personal success, having overcome setbacks, achieved milestones and improved their quality of life.
“Give thanks today ~ even if your life is not what you want it to be.
You may be facing financial hardships with no place to call your own, in the midst of serious health or relationships challenges, dealing with crazy children or relatives or overworked and underpaid.”
“When you look at your life, it may be hard to be thankful.”
“For others, this may have been your best year ever. You turned your life around, enjoyed success, created more love in your life and exceeded your personal best.”
Mr Hamzat stressed that gratitude should not be dependent on one’s situation, urging people to give thanks regardless of their circumstances.
He added that every individual still has the opportunity to turn things around, mend broken relationships and live with renewed purpose, emphasising that each person’s presence carries the potential to create hope and possibility for the future.
The message concluded with prayers and goodwill to residents as they observed the Friday Jumaat prayers.
