The Ogun State Police Command has intensified enforcement against vehicles operating with illegal number plates, the misuse of dealer (temporary) plates, and the unauthorised use of sirens and amber lights, as part of a broader push to improve public safety and curb crime across the state.
Police said the operation, driven by credible intelligence, involves targeted checks on vehicles bearing fake, altered, covered or improperly affixed plates, as well as those unlawfully using dealer plates.
Authorities noted that such vehicles are frequently used to facilitate criminal activities, posing significant risks to motorists and pedestrians.
Offenders identified during the operation are being arrested and prosecuted in line with existing laws, the command said, adding that the measures are designed to disrupt criminal networks while promoting safer roads.
Specialised units, including the Motor Traffic Department, the Monitoring Unit and the X-Squad, have been deployed to oversee enforcement and ensure compliance with operational guidelines.
Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers are supervising activities within their jurisdictions to maintain fairness, transparency and professionalism.
The Commissioner of Police urged members of the public to cooperate with officers, comply with traffic regulations, avoid suspicious vehicles and use recognised motor parks and designated pick-up points.
Residents were assured that the enforcement drive is aimed at preventing crime, maintaining public order and protecting lives, while respecting the rights and dignity of all road users.
Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activity or security concerns via the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines, including the toll-free Gateway Shield complaints line on 0800 000 9111, or emergency numbers 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369 and 0708 497 2994.
