President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has hailed the strong bond of friendship and cooperation between Malawi and Luxembourg when he hosted the Deputy Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

The President expressed deep appreciation for the visit, describing it as a powerful demonstration of Luxembourg’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

He said Malawi is committed to strengthening the partnership, especially as both countries prepare to sign a General Cooperation Agreement on Tuesday, which is expected to expand collaboration in several sectors.

On the country’s economic transformation, President Mutharika emphasised the shift from a predominantly importing and consuming economy to one that produces and exports.

He noted that immediate challenges in food, fertilizer, foreign exchange, and fuel are being addressed, while efforts continue to stabilise the economy, reduce inflation, and lower interest rates.

“I therefore invite you and Luxembourg investors to set up companies in Malawi, the country has conducive environment for investment,” he said.

The President cited Malawi’s peace, hardworking and skilled workforce, and supportive policies as key advantages for business growth.

President Mutharika then extended best wishes to Luxembourg in its candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

In his remarks, Bettel who is also Luxembourg’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs congratulated President Mutharika on his electoral victory, noting the rare level of support and trust he has earned and expressed strong interest in working closely with Malawi to help realise President’s vision for national transformation.
