The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has urged residents to enrol in its ongoing admission and registration exercise for Skills Acquisition Centres across the state.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bolaji Cecilia Dada, said the centres are located across Lagos State’s five administrative divisions — Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos and Epe — to ensure broad access and participation.
She said the centres offer a range of vocational, entrepreneurial and computer training programmes aimed at equipping participants with practical and income-generating skills.
According to the commissioner, the courses are aligned with the Education and Technology and “Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy” pillars of the state government’s THEMES Plus development agenda.
Programmes available include computer studies, photography, vulcanising and wheel balancing, catering and hotel management, aluminium fabrication, textile design, bead stringing and macramé craft, and textile weaving.
Other courses are refrigeration and air-conditioning maintenance, tile laying and paving, screen transfer and printing technology, welding fabrication, shoe and leather works, pottery, adult literacy, hairdressing and cosmetology, barbing, furniture making and fashion design.
Mrs Dada said the initiative forms a central part of the ministry’s mandate to alleviate poverty and promote economic self-reliance, particularly among women, young adults and vulnerable groups.
“This initiative is a vital pathway to empowerment, job creation and economic inclusion. It directly supports Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda by building skills, boosting entrepreneurship and improving livelihoods,” she said.
She encouraged interested residents to register at the centre nearest to them, noting that the admission exercise is ongoing.
The commissioner added that the facilities are equipped with qualified instructors and modern training tools to ensure quality and practical learning.
She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to delivering sustainable empowerment programmes aimed at reducing unemployment and improving living standards across Lagos State.
