The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency says it is working to locate and support a young woman who reported being sexually assaulted in a video circulating on social media.
The agency said it became aware of the case following multiple public tags and expressions of concern linked to the video, which was posted on the woman’s TikTok page. In the video, she described being assaulted at her residence.
In a statement, the agency said it had “seen the reports and is actively making efforts to reach the survivor to offer immediate support and appropriate intervention, and ascertain her location.”
Officials added that the agency had initiated contact through available communication channels and would continue efforts to establish direct and safe communication with the woman.
The agency also appealed to members of the public for assistance, urging anyone with credible information that could help locate her to send a direct message through its official social media accounts.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards domestic and sexual violence, emphasising that sexual assault is a criminal offence.
Authorities said survivors deserve protection, care, support and justice, and encouraged others who may have experienced abuse to come forward.
They also assured the public that all reports of sexual violence are handled with strict confidentiality and urgency.
