Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has called for stronger accountability and measurable results across agencies under the ministry, as the government seeks to improve internal security administration and public service delivery.
Speaking at the 2026 management retreat of the Federal Ministry of Interior, Mr Tunji-Ojo urged senior officials to sustain ongoing reforms and raise performance standards in line with the policy agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said the government remained committed to strengthening institutions through performance-driven leadership and reforms aimed at improving efficiency across the sector.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, described the retreat as an opportunity to assess institutional performance and reinforce accountability across key areas of the ministry’s work.
These include border management, correctional services and citizenship administration.
The event also featured goodwill messages from stakeholders, including representatives of the House of Representatives committees on Interior and Reformatory Institutions, as well as officials from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board.
Speakers commended the ministry’s reform efforts and highlighted the need for continued collaboration between the executive and legislative branches to strengthen internal security administration and institutional governance.
The retreat brought together senior management staff of the ministry and heads of its agencies to review performance indicators, refine policy strategies and develop frameworks aimed at improving service delivery across Nigeria’s interior sector.
