The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State, with the notable absence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).
The election is scheduled to take place on 8 August 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the electoral body’s Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Musa Olurode, confirmed that several political parties had been cleared to participate after completing the required nomination processes.
According to the commission, the approved parties include Accord, Action Alliance, African Action Congress, African Democratic Congress, Action Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, All Progressives Congress, Allied Peoples Movement, Action Peoples Party, Boot Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Peoples Redemption Party, Young Progressive Party and Zenith Labour Party.

INEC did not immediately give detailed reasons for the absence of the PDP and Labour Party from the final list, a development that could reshape the political contest in the state.
