Lagos Inaugurates Electricity Regulatory Commission Board|LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the board of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), marking a key step in the state’s plan to strengthen electricity regulation.

The inauguration took place on Monday at Lagos House.

The commission was established following the passage of the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024, which was signed into law last year to give the state government greater authority over how electricity is generated, distributed and regulated within Lagos.

Speaking during the ceremony, Sanwo-Olu said the commission would oversee and regulate the electricity market in the state, including licensing power providers, setting tariffs and protecting consumers.

He added that the body would also support innovation in the sector, including the adoption of renewable energy and more efficient electricity systems.

According to the governor, the move is aimed at building a more reliable and competitive power sector that can better serve residents and businesses across Lagos.

The establishment of LASERC is expected to strengthen the state’s electricity framework and help improve power supply in Nigeria’s commercial hub.
