Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected gunrunner, Kelvin Ebikeniye Dugo, in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.
According to a statement issued by the agency, the arrest followed credible intelligence indicating that the suspect was planning to procure 832 rounds of live ammunition from a supplier based in Benue State.
The DSS disclosed that Dugo was intercepted shortly after receiving the consignment, which had been cleverly concealed within food items.
Recovered from the suspect were 832 rounds of ammunition and two empty AK-47 magazines.
The agency noted that the operation highlights its intensified nationwide efforts to clamp down on gunrunning and curb the proliferation of illegal arms across the country.
