The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed the death of a corps member in Abeokuta, Ogun State, describing the incident as tragic and currently under investigation.
In an official statement released by the Scheme’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the NYSC expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the family of the deceased.
“The management of the NYSC is deeply saddened by the loss of a corps member in Abeokuta under circumstances that are currently being investigated. We pray for the peaceful repose of her soul,” the statement read.
The agency also addressed reports circulating in the media regarding the alleged involvement of one of its staff members. According to the NYSC, the suspect has been taken into custody, while relevant security agencies continue with investigations into the matter.
Reaffirming its commitment to discipline and accountability, the Scheme emphasized that it maintains a strict code of conduct for both staff and corps members and will not tolerate misconduct or abuse of office.
The NYSC further assured the public of its full cooperation with law enforcement authorities to ensure that the truth is uncovered and justice is served.
While investigations remain ongoing, the Scheme urged members of the public to avoid speculation and allow due process to take its course.
It reiterated that the welfare, safety, and dignity of corps members remain a top priority.
