In a statement issued on Monday in Lagos, the group’s spokesperson, Kemi Kasumu, expressed concern over reports that the lawmaker sponsored a bill for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Ajase-Ipo, Kwara State allegedly his hometown instead of facilitating such a project within Apapa Federal Constituency.

LAG described the move as a breach of the fundamental duty of representation, stressing that elected officials are mandated to promote the welfare and development of their constituencies. The group noted that siting a federal healthcare facility outside Apapa raises serious ethical and governance concerns, particularly as the constituency faces significant healthcare infrastructure deficits despite its dense population and economic importance.

The organisation also alleged diversion of palliative materials meant for residents of Apapa. It claimed that items such as rice and fertilisers intended to cushion economic hardship were either poorly distributed or unaccounted for, warning that such actions, if proven, would amount to a grave breach of public trust.

Furthermore, LAG accused the lawmaker of alleged intimidation, threats, and disregard for party leadership and internal democratic processes, actions it said undermine discipline within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group, therefore, urged the Lagos State leadership of the APC, led by Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, to constitute an independent, transparent, and time-bound panel to investigate the allegations.

It also called on the lawmaker to provide a formal public explanation and insisted that any constituency-related project should be redirected to Apapa in line with his mandate.

LAG added that appropriate disciplinary measures should be taken if the allegations are substantiated.

The group further noted growing calls by some constituents for the recall of the lawmaker, describing the development as a reflection of increasing public dissatisfaction and loss of confidence, although it acknowledged that recall remains a constitutional process.

LAG urged party leaders, civil society organisations, and relevant oversight institutions to treat the matter with urgency, emphasising the need to safeguard the integrity of representation, public office credibility, and the trust of the electorate.
