Accident: OYRLEA Warns Against Roadside Trading in Ibadan |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA), in collaboration with state security operatives and the Environmental Task Force, on Tuesday intensified its enforcement against roadside and street trading across major markets in Ibadan.

The enforcement team commenced operations at Oje Market before moving to Mokola Roundabout as part of ongoing efforts to maintain order and ensure public safety.

However, the exercise took a tragic turn when the team received distress calls from traders reporting a fatal accident along the Beere–Oje axis. Officials immediately redirected to the scene to assess the situation.

Preliminary reports indicate that a truck, allegedly experiencing brake failure, lost control while descending from Beere towards Oje Market. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle rammed into tricycles, roadside stalls, and pedestrians, resulting in multiple casualties.

Authorities say the incident underscores the dangers associated with roadside trading and obstruction of highways, reiterating warnings to traders to vacate unauthorized trading areas to prevent further loss of lives and property.
