The All Progressives Congress (APC) has re-elected Dr Isaac Kekemeke as its South-West zonal chairman following a consensus arrangement at the party’s zonal congress held in Lagos.

Mr Kekemeke was returned alongside seven other executive members, all of whom emerged unopposed during the gathering on Wednesday.

Chairman of the Zonal Congress Committee, Jide Jimoh, said 1,398 delegates from across the six South-West states were accredited for the exercise.

He gave a breakdown of the delegates as 337 from Lagos, 245 from Ondo, 243 from Oyo, 156 from Osun, 211 from Ekiti and 206 from Ogun.

Those elected with Mr Kekemeke include Alfred Aluko as secretary, Ismail Majaro as legal adviser, Lateef Ibirogba as organising secretary and Ayobami Afolabi as publicity secretary. Others are Oyetunde Adesanya as woman leader, Daramola Adesuyi as youth leader and Dayo Ishola as representative of persons with disability.

Mr Jimoh described the congress as “historic”, praising the conduct of delegates and urging the new leadership to strengthen the party in the region.

Speaking on behalf of South-West governors, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the exercise set a standard for other regions. He commended delegates for their patience and loyalty, and described the process as transparent and orderly.

Mr Sanwo-Olu also referenced Bola Tinubu, saying the party in the region had demonstrated adherence to democratic principles and internal rules.

Responding, Mr Kekemeke thanked party leaders for their confidence and pledged to improve on the performance of the outgoing executive. He said the new team would work to secure strong support for the APC in future elections, including the 2027 presidential poll.

He added that the party would focus on winning upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.

In a message delivered by the APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel, the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, congratulated the new executive and urged members to work together to strengthen the party’s position in the South-West.

The congress was attended by several party leaders, including governors, former office holders and members of the National Assembly, as well as other statutory delegates from across the region.
