Soun Suspends Senator Adeseun as Mayegun of Ogbomosoland |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, has indefinitely suspended former senator, Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun, from the chieftaincy title of Mayegun of Ogbomosoland.

The decision was conveyed in a letter dated March 23, 2026, issued from the palace in Ogbomoso.

According to the letter, which was signed by the Palace Secretary, Toyin Ajamu, the action followed what the monarch described as the senator’s “recent and continued conduct,” said to have become a source of concern and embarrassment to the traditional institution.

The palace accused Adeseun of sustained acts of insubordination, wilful disregard, and persistent disrespect towards the palace and the revered stool of the Soun.

Part of the letter read:

“It is with deep regret, yet with a firm sense of royal duty and responsibility, that His Imperial Majesty has taken cognisance of your sustained acts of insubordination, wilful disregard, and persistent disrespect towards the palace and the sacred institution it represents.”

The monarch further stated that the former lawmaker’s actions, both in public and private, fell short of the dignity and responsibility expected of a palace chief and holder of the Mayegun title.

Consequently, the palace announced the indefinite suspension of Adeseun from the office and chieftaincy title with immediate effect.

He was also directed to cease parading himself as the Mayegun of Ogbomosoland in any capacity whether at public events, official engagements, in the media, on social media, or in correspondence pending further directives from the palace.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official reaction from Adeseun regarding the development.
