The Lagos State Government has rescued an 11-year-old boy allegedly subjected to prolonged physical abuse by his biological mother.

The Lagos State Bureau of Public Defender (BPD) disclosed this in a statement, revealing that the child suffered repeated assaults involving electric cables and other harmful objects, leaving him with multiple injuries of varying severity.

According to the agency, it promptly alerted the Nigeria Police Force after receiving a report of the incident. Officers at the Igbogbo Division in Ikorodu carried out investigations, leading to the arrest of the suspect, who was subsequently charged to court.

“The Bureau received a case involving an 11-year-old minor (name withheld) who was subjected to severe physical abuse by his biological mother,” the statement read.

“The abuse reportedly involved the repeated use of electric cables and other harmful objects, resulting in multiple injuries of varying degrees.”

The BPD confirmed that the case has been filed before a Magistrate Court in Ikorodu. It added that the child has been removed from the abusive environment and placed in a secure government shelter for care and protection, in line with its mandate to safeguard vulnerable persons.

The suspect has been remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.
