Former Oyo State Commissioner for Health and public sector reform advocate, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, has called for stronger female participation in party leadership and governance following a strategic meeting with leaders of the Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Women’s Wing in Abuja.
The engagement, which took place on the sidelines of the recent APC National Convention, focused on deepening women’s involvement in party organisation, grassroots mobilisation and leadership structures across Oyo State.
Participants at the meeting described the discussions as constructive and forward-looking, noting that the interaction provided an opportunity to explore practical steps toward improving internal party coordination and expanding leadership opportunities for women within the party.
Observers said the meeting underscored the growing recognition of women as critical stakeholders in party development and governance, particularly in efforts aimed at strengthening representation and institutional participation within the APC in Oyo State.
Speaking during the interaction, Gbadegesin commended the women leaders for what he described as their consistent commitment to party growth and community engagement.
He stressed that sustainable political progress in Oyo State would depend largely on the active participation of women at every level of leadership and decision-making.
Among those present at the meeting were Mrs. Felicia Opatunde, Oyo State APC Women Leader; Alhaja Fatima Hassan, State Deputy Women Leader; Dr. Adepeju Esan, former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly; and Alhaja Ramota Okemakinde, also a former member of the state assembly, alongside other senior women leaders in the party.
Stakeholders at the convention said the meeting formed part of a wider series of consultations among party leaders and delegates aimed at fostering unity, strengthening internal cohesion and positioning the party for future political developments in Oyo State.
