Tuggar Resigns as Foreign Affairs Minister, Sets Sights on Bauchi Governorship Race |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has resigned from the cabinet of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to pursue the Bauchi State governorship ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the development on Monday through its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.

According to reports, Tuggar submitted his resignation letter to the President shortly after noon, signaling his intention to contest the governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His resignation follows a presidential directive issued earlier in March, mandating all political appointees with ambitions to seek elective office to step down from their positions.

The directive, communicated through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, set March 31, 2026, as the deadline for compliance.
