INEC Shifts Osun Governorship Poll To August 15, Adjusts Campaign Deadline |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a consequential shift in the campaign timeline for the Osun State Governorship Election, following its earlier revision of the 2027 General Election timetable.

In a statement signed on Thursday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the commission said the election, originally scheduled for August 8, 2026, had been moved forward by one week to August 15, 2026.

INEC said the adjustment, which it had announced on February 26, 2026, had a direct bearing on the campaign calendar. Under Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, political campaigns must cease 24 hours before election day, placing the new deadline for campaigning at midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

The commission urged all political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to strictly observe the revised timeline.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections
