Gunman Sparks Panic at White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Raising Security Concerns|LAGOS EYE NEWS

Panic erupted Saturday night outside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner when a 31-year-old teacher from Torrance, California, identified as Cole Allen, opened fire near the entrance of the Washington Hilton, authorities confirmed.

According to D.C. Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll, Allen was heavily armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives. Witnesses said he emerged from a makeshift room near the venue’s entrance, where he had reportedly been staying as a registered guest, before retrieving a long weapon from a bag and beginning the attack.

The gunfire triggered immediate chaos as attendees scrambled for safety. Security personnel, including Secret Service agents, swiftly moved to evacuate high-profile guests, among them former U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

Video clips circulating online captured scenes of confusion, with guests ducking and security rushing to secure the area. The sequence of evacuations has since drawn scrutiny, particularly reports that the Vice President was moved before the President, raising questions about established emergency protocols.

Authorities say the threat was neutralized within a short time, though details surrounding the suspect’s motive and any possible casualties have not yet been disclosed.

The incident has intensified concerns about security lapses at one of Washington’s most prominent gatherings, attended annually by top political leaders, journalists, and celebrities. Investigations are ongoing as officials work to determine how the suspect was able to bring multiple weapons into such a highly secured environment.
